CNRS invites applications for a tenure-track position, called chaire de professeur junior (CPJ), to develop research programme in solid-state NMR of materials.

Scientific objectives

This programme will leverage solid-state NMR to characterize innovative functional materials, including nanostructured materials, polymers, glasses, etc, used for applications, such as heterogeneous catalysis, energy conversion and storage, etc. Methodological developments may include

  • the observation of challenging isotopes, such as 14N, 17O, 47Ti, etc,
  • the use of advanced NMR instrumentation (high magnetic fields, innovative probes, hyperpolarization, etc),
  • the development of specific NMR techniques for paramagnetic solids, quadrupolar nuclei, protons, etc,
  • in-situ and operando NMR measurements, etc.

Research environments

The hired scientist will be hosted by one of the following CNRS research institutes:

  • CEMHTI in Orléans,
  • CRMN in Lyon,
  • LCMCP in Paris,
  • UCCS in Lille.

These institutes offer access to state-of-the-art solid-state NMR equipment.

Candidate profile

Applicants are expected to demonstrate an expertise in solid-state NMR of materials and outstanding scientific record so that they can be appointed as CNRS senior scientists (directeur de recherche in French) at the end of the tenure-track period, which is expected to last between 3 to 6 years. Directeurs de recherche are highest research-only rank in the French public research system. They are directly equivalent to Full Professors at universities, but with virtually no mandatory teaching duties.

The tenure-track position includes a start-up package to establish an independent research programme, including funding for research expenses and the recruitment of a PhD student and the access to the state-of-the-art research infrastructures.
